Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs)
PMB's are minimum health benefits that medical schemes by law must cover members for irrespective of their chosen membership option, their age, or the state of their health.
PMBs include 26 chronic conditions and 271 medical conditions as well as emergency medical treatment for medical conditions that are sudden and unexpected and must be treated immediately to prevent serious and lasting damage to the member’s health or the member’s death.
An emergency medical condition means the sudden and, at the time, unexpected onset of a health condition that requires immediate medical treatment and/or an operation. If the treatment is not available, the emergency could result in weakened bodily functions, serious and lasting damage to organs, limbs or other body parts, or even death.
