Health Booster

An additional benefit for preventive care and early detection tests available to beneficiaries of the Scheme at no extra cost. Except for the Essence option.

Preventive Care

Is aimed at helping beneficiaries stay healthy and avoid diseases and possible hospitalisation. Included are vaccinations, medication and more.

Baby immunisation

  • Beneficiaries: Child Dependents aged below 6 years.
  • Frequency: As required by the Department of Health.

Flu vaccination

  • Beneficiaries: All beneficiaries.
  • Frequency: February to June.

COVID-19 vaccination

  • Beneficiaries: All beneficiaries.

Tetanus diphtheria injection

  • Beneficiaries: All beneficiaries.
  • Frequency: As and when required.

Pneumococcal vaccination (Prevenar not included)

  • Beneficiaries: All beneficiaries.

Malaria medication to the value of R415

  • Beneficiaries: All beneficiaries.
  • Frequency: One per year.

HPV vaccination

  • Beneficiaries: Female beneficiaries aged 9-14.
  • Frequency: 2 doses per lifetime. 

*Excluding Essence.

Baby growth assessments

  • Beneficiaries: 3 baby growth assessments at a pharmacy or baby clinic for beneficiaries aged 0-35 months.
  • Frequency: Per year.

Contraceptive medication tablets / patches

  • Beneficiaries: Female beneficiaries aged 16 years and above – R164.
  • Frequency: Every 20 days.

Contraceptive medication injectables

  • Beneficiaries: Female beneficiaries aged 16 years and above – R492.
  • Frequency: Every 72 days.

Early Detection Tests

Are aimed at detecting illnesses early before they become serious, thereby allowing for early treatment. They include cancer, HIV, and many more.

Pap smear (Pathologist)

  • Beneficiaries: Female beneficiaries aged 15 and above.
  • Frequency: One per year.

Pap smear (including consultation and pelvic organs ultrasound; GP or Gynecologist)

  • Beneficiaries: Female beneficiaries aged 15 and above.
  • Frequency: One per year.

Mammogram

  • Beneficiaries: Female beneficiaries aged 40 and above.
  • Frequency: One per year.

Prostate specific antigen (PSA) (Pathologist)

  • Beneficiaries: Male beneficiaries aged 40 and above.
  • Frequency: One per year.

HIV / AIDS test (Pathologist)

  • Beneficiaries: All beneficiaries.
  • Frequency: One per year.

Health Assessment (HA)

Body mass index, blood pressure measurement, cholesterol test (finger prick), blood sugar test (finger prick), PSA (finger prick).

  • Beneficiaries: All beneficiaries.
  • Frequency: One per year.

Weight Loss

For those beneficiaries whose weight is above the recommended body mass.

Weight Loss Programme

Beneficiaries: For all beneficiaries whose body mass index (BMI) is more than 30.  Pre-authorisation by the Scheme is compulsory and use of DSP provider.
Frequency: 

  • 3 x dietician consultations (One per week).
  • 1 x biokineticists consultation (to create a home exercise programme for the member).
  • 3 x additional dietician consultations (one per week, provided that a weight loss chart was received from the dietician proving weight loss after the first 3 weeks).
  • 1 x follow-up consultation with biokineticists.

Maternity Programme

Aims at ensuring that the mother-to-be has access to all the best healthcare needs, including information and treatments during her pregnancy.

Ante-natal visits (GP, gynecologist, or midwife) and urine test (dipstick)

Beneficiaries: Female beneficiaries. Pre-notification of and pre-authorisation by the Scheme are compulsory and the use of DSP provider(s).
Frequency: 12 visits.

Sonars (GP or gynecologist) – one before the 24th week and one thereafter#

Beneficiaries: Female beneficiaries. Pre-notification of and pre-authorisation by the Scheme are compulsory.
Frequency: 2 pregnancy scans.

Short payments / co-payments for services rendered in (# above) and birthing fees

Covered to the value of R1 290 per pregnancy.

Pediatrician visits

Beneficiaries: Baby registered on Scheme.
Frequency: 2 visits in baby’s 1st year. 1 visit in baby’s 2nd year.

Ante-natal vitamins

Covered to the value of R2 180 per pregnancy.

Ante-natal classes

Covered to the value of R2 180 for first pregnancy.
